I spent nearly two decades as a cop in DC. I saw what happened to people who got caught up in the criminal justice system without money, without connections, and without anyone looking out for them.

I watched kids get locked up for weed, for petty theft, for skipping court dates because they couldn’t get time off work. I saw people sit in holding for days because they couldn’t afford bail on some bullshit charge. And I saw what the system did to them — not just physically, but mentally. It chewed them up and spit them out.

So yeah, when I read that Ghislaine Maxwell is doing time at a federal prison with yoga, book clubs, and email access, it pissed me off.
