Every authoritarian system has a tell.

They don’t threaten to fire people because they’re incompetent.
They threaten to fire them because they hesitated.

And right now, reporting suggests Donald Trump may be lining up his next target — Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. Nothing’s confirmed yet, but the signals are hard to ignore. Behind-the-scenes leaks, diminished visibility, shifting responsibilities — that’s Washington language for your box is already being packed.

But before anyone pops champagne or cracks jokes, people need to understand what this really means. Because if Noem goes, it won’t be because she crossed a line.

It’ll be because she didn’t cross it fast enough.
